have 5 month old male chi for 3 months now, he is great, a fab pet to have, small dog, big big heart and attitude
I just wanted to tell you that I have been considering buying a Chihuahua because for some reason I am drawn to them. I have had at least four poodles, a maltese and a cairn terrier. I do love my poodles though - yet I am drawn to the chihuahua's. My problem is this: I am not sure of the nature of the chi's, but I am of the poodles. I am used to not having the shedding issue, and I am highly allergic to cats and supposed to be to dogs, but, really only long haired breeds. With cats, I could literally die with the swollen eyes, wheezing, etc. - a quick an sadistic torture too. Your website was highly insightful and am glad I stumbled across it, as it gives me a potential buyer, things to consider. I want to get this right, as it is not fair to either the animal or me. While I still can't make up my mind, as I saw some beautiful chi's I would like to go visit before I totally say this is it, because of your insightful information, I guess I am leaning back toward poodles. I can still admire from a distance, but living with them may be another story. Thank you for being so thorough and keep posting.

we in Ky. LOVE Chi's in my family when all kids and grandkids get together, we have 9 Chis, all sizes and colors biggest is 9 lbs, smallest, Ruby is 4 lbs.and I am convinced they are the smartest dogs on the planet, don't know what we would do without them...

Hello, this is my first time ever owning what my friend calls "frou frou" dogs. I have always had BIG dogs. I am so in love with my two new puppies, Polo and Jazzy. Polo, fawn with black muzzle, male; and Jazzy, black and tan, female. Brother and sister. They are on schedule with wormings and shots and scheduled for "that trip" at six months to prevent any puppies. Just wanted to say that your website has given me the most useful info to date. I diligently searched beforehand to learn all I could about Chihuahuas and then have been looking for info since I brought them home. I am going to get the "Chihuahuas for Dummies" book this weekend to supplement my browsing info. My puppies are 9 weeks old. I have had them since 8/29/09. I am currently searching for an obedience class to take them to as soon as they get a little older. Meanwhile, we are working on teaching them their names and the "come" command. Polo comes immediately while Jazzy is more independent (read hard-headed). They are doing really, really well with the "go potty" command. Still having to use the crate and pee pads due to me being at work. They are also doing the impossible, which is winning my husband's heart. He is not a pet person. my little girl is 17 months and what a treat. she is barely 3lbs. her little ears flop over but i just love it. she is tri-color. how do you tell her that she can't push around our 60lb pit bull, i guess when you grow up together it just works.

Hi! I need help and can't seem to find the "right" information. I adopted a Chi in mid December from a couple and much to my dismay she had her heat cycle end of Dec/beginning of January. I made it through it and plan to get her fix before th next heat cycle which by all of my reading means about May or June. Today I noticed her "area" is swelling dramatically again. Can they have a heat cycle again even though it hasn't been 6 months? Please help!

Lost Contact for quite a few years. You are Chloe's Breeders. She will be 6 years old this june. She had an accident shortly before her first birthday and after a year of treatments that didn't work, including 3 surgerys. We went ahead and for her quality of life decided to amputate the leg. Since then she is happy and running and playing like she always wanted to. Her best friend besides me is her parrot Bob. She is a joy.
I bought a "teacup" male medium hair chi about 6 mo. ago. Best decision I ever made. he's so sweet and loving, but so hyper! Not to mention stubborn. He's so difficult to pee pad train. I know he gets it. 10% of the time he just goes wherever he thinks I won't find it. LOL

You just don't know how much you love these little guys until they become part of your family. His name is Rocky. He makes everyone he meets want to have one just like him! He is just so friendly and loves everyone! I don't think he knows he's a dog...we won't tell him.

I just found this site by accident. I have to puppies that are chihuahua and yorkie mix. They are the sweetest and we have decided that the best decision we ever made was get them both. (They are brother and sister from the same litter).

As a former dog owner, whose friend passed away last year after 12 wonderful years, I can relate to the love between a dog and a human. He held a special place in my heart.
